Performs the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in planning implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients on the Unit during his/her shift. Is responsible for meeting the established standards of nursing practice, for managing all assigned personnel, supplies, equipment, on the Unit and for promoting team work with physician & personnel of other departments.

- Assess the delivery of nursing care on the unit and identifies problems and any need for improvement.
- Assess the health status of assigned patients on the unit as outlined in the nursing standards; reporting any deviations from normal to the Charge nurse.
- Ensures that a comprehensive nursing assessment is completed on all patients assigned to admit.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the nursing process in planning.
- Nursing Care Plan is completed on admission and then reviewed and revised on a daily basis. needs to be evaluated every 24 hours.
- Provides quality nursing care as outlined in Margaretville standards of nursing care.
- Develops individualized patient teaching to the level of the patient’s understanding.
- Documents in patient record, patient assessment data, as per NYSDOH, HCAHO and Margaretville Hospital policy
- Proficient in IV therapy.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of pharmacology.
- Demonstrates knowledge of sterile/aseptic technique.
- Adheres to the hospital Infection Control program; maintains proper isolation technique and notifies Infection Control nurse when indicated.
- Is knowledgeable of equipment and assists with management of patients during emergency.
- Performs treatments within scope of practice.
- Assists in the department continuous QI program
- Assist with orientation of new employees.
- Ensues that standard of care for telemetry patients in maintained.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Serves on various nursing department committees and helps to review and revise p/p as directed by supervisory personnel.
- Know how to transcribe all orders to proper forms or on a computer.
- Be able to use ambulance transmitter
- Be able to turn off/on alarms and where they are located.
- Be able to do EKG’s and Respiratory treatments and document
- Interprets rhythm strips and assesses changes in pattern.
Essential Job Qualifications |
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of NY.
Experience:
Training/License:
- ACLS, or acquire within 1 year.
