About the Opportunity
Northeastern University is seeking applications for two full-time Associate/Full Professor tenure line faculty positions for scholars whose research is focused on Health Equity, to be located at Mills College at Northeastern University in Oakland, California. This opportunity invites innovative scholars to be a part of an evolving research environment within a campus that carries a rich tradition of championing equity, social justice, and leadership. The selected candidates will play a crucial role in bridging the Oakland campus’s historic focus on social justice with the dynamic research culture of Northeastern. While both positions are in Oakland, the tenure home for one position will be in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, and the other in the College of Social Sciences & Humanities.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree, an active and successful research program delving deep into issues of health equity and be committed to the education of our students through teaching excellence and service. We welcome applicants studying topics across many diverse disciplines within the broad umbrella of health equity, utilizing data-driven and theory-based methodologies. Preference will be given to candidates engaged in applied research and data collection. Potential collaborative research areas among the existing faculty of the two colleges include environmental health, environmental social science, epidemiology, health policy, health economics, sociology, health informatics, and other health and social science fields. Applicants appropriate for the rank of Assistant Professor will not be considered for these positions.
Our tenure and promotion process values collaborative research and teamwork. Hires will be mentored for success, with mentoring teams and group guidance. In addition, a strong and effective faculty development strategy is part of the Northeastern institutional mission. The ADVANCE Office of Faculty Development office works in conjunction with the Office of Research Development (ORD), the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research (CATLR), and University Decision Support (UDS) to provide programs and trainings to further develop and support a thriving faculty.
At Northeastern University, we embrace a culture of respect, where each person is valued for their contribution and is treated fairly. We oppose all forms of racism. We support a culture that does not tolerate any form of discrimination and where each person may belong. We strive to have a diverse membership, one where each person is trained and mentored to promote their success.
Responsibilities
Faculty members at Northeastern are expected to develop research programs that attract external funding, with collaborative research programs strongly encouraged; teach courses with excellence at the graduate and undergraduate level; supervise undergraduates, Ph.D. students and postdocs in their areas of research; and participate in service to the department, college, and university. Qualified candidates must have expertise in, or a demonstrated commitment to, working with diverse student populations and/or in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.
Additional Information
Interested candidates should apply here with a curriculum vita that includes a list of publications, statements addressing the prompts below, and a cover letter that includes the names of three or more people who can be asked for reference letters. Referees will not be contacted without a candidate’s prior consent. Applications will be reviewed beginning on November 6, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.
