The Coatesville VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is currently recruiting for a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Primary Care Service. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Nurse Practitioner Specific Requirements: A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Experience: In addition to meeting the basic requirements as stated above, you must have the following: Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; and, meet the following practice dimensions: Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making and evaluating outcomes. Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or in areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise. Guiding, developing and supporting staff from a leadership perspective. Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. May be required to work with assaultive or combative patients. NOTE: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted. ["This position is in the Primary Care Service Line at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. The CRNP provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level. Uses the nursing process to solve complex patient care problems on the assigned unit and/or in other areas. Monitors assigned patients closely from admission to discharge so that continuity of care is achieved. Performs comprehensive medical and nursing assessments including the patient's perception of his/her place on the healthcare continuum, taking risk factors into account. Develops a database on patients by gathering data from sources as history, physical examination, and diagnostic testing. Interprets data in relation to the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients, formulating appropriate therapeutic interventions. Conducts annual histories and physical examinations on assigned patients and orders appropriate diagnostic and screening tests, as well as immunizations with follow-up as necessary. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of individuals served in his/her assigned service area. Evaluates overall patient care outcomes on assigned patients and makes recommendations which may impact on areas beyond the unit level. Prescribes pharmacological agents as outlined in the scope of practice/clinical privileges in accordance with the VA formulary and VA policies. Monitors therapeutic drug levels and reports abnormal findings to the attending physician or designee for discussion and adjustments. Assists patients and families to become responsible for their own healthcare through patient and family education and evaluates outcomes. Completes discharge documentation such as discharge summary, discharge instructions, discharge medications, VA Form 1204, and other relevant documents to effect the patient's smooth transition into a community nursing home, adult daycare center, or another facility.
