The Mental Health, Residential Rehab Treatment Program (MHRRTP) LPN GS-7 is directly responsible to the Nurse Manager or assigned supervisor, and works independently, with readily available guidance from the RN or Provider. The (MHRRTP) LPN GS-7 meets the needs of both the internal and external customers while supporting the mission of the VA by consistently communicating and treating customers in a courteous, professional, and respectful manner. The (MHRRTP) LPN GS-7 is responsible for upholding the philosophy, objectives, mission and vision of the Patient Care Services. The (MHRRTP) LPN GS-7 is accountable for adhering to established policies, procedures, standards of care and standards of practice, and for maintaining competencies consistent with roles and responsibilities. The (MHRRTP) LPN GS-7: Provides care in a safe and cost-effective manner. Contributes to the evaluation of residents at risk for relapse and/or suicide and implements appropriate safety measures to assist the resident with coping and regaining control. Actively participates in all treatment team functions and contributes pertinent information regarding veteran's abilities, behaviors, and needs. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of the Recovery model, resident teaching, effective communication techniques, and conducting nursing groups regarding coping with PTSD, addiction, and other psychiatric conditions. Demonstrates broad knowledge and skill with respect to psychiatric conditions including PTSD and addiction, medications, contraindications, actions, and recognition of the subtler signs and symptoms of potential and actual drug reactions. Demonstrates the ability to proactively assist the RN and/or provider in managing the resident's behavior/medications/treatments. Promptly recognizes potential or actual behavioral and medical changes, including drug reactions. Promptly informs the RN and/or provider of observed changes in resident condition and initiating appropriate, prescribed intervention with safe and therapeutic resident care delivery, within scope of practice. Promptly reports all accidents and potential safety concerns and notifies supervisor of these issues. Interprets emotional and physical changes based on understanding of evidence based practices with special knowledge related to PTSD, Substance Abuse, and other psychiatric conditions. Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, ability, and responds appropriately to emergency situations and unpredictable behaviors. Contributes to the evaluation of pain/comfort status and assists patients to utilize coping skills and non-pharmacologic pain interventions. Supports and encourages participation in all aspects of recovery process. Demonstrates the ability to promote teamwork and conflict resolution among peers and veteran's, role-modeling effective communication strategies. Obtains specimen labels, special instructions, and/or sample requirements from the hospital computer system. Delivers specimens to the designated delivery point for transportation to assure timely receipt. Complies, leads interventions, and assists with all safety rules/regulations. Attends scheduled training sessions and participates in medical center/service level safety promotions as directed by the supervisor. Possesses knowledge of fire drill and emergency plans for work area, including location of all emergency equipment. Functions independently as the team leader for assigned tour of duty on the (MHRRTP) unit.
