Duties and Responsibilities
â�¢Assist the Director of Infection Prevention with ongoing assessment and development of programs, policies & procedures and forms to address the Infection Prevention needs of employees, volunteers, contract workers, independent contractors, physicians, registry workers and students in accordance with the guidelines established by the regulatory agencies.
â�¢Ensures that the Infection Prevention Program complies with all hospital policies and delivers high-quality care to patients.
â�¢Collaborates with the Director of Infection Prevention to evaluate infection surveillance data to ensure that outbreaks, clusters, and unusual occurrences of infection are promptly identified, investigated, and controlled.
â�¢Conducts periodic rounds of all clinical areas to ensure that all patients with confirmed or suspected communicable diseases or infections are appropriately isolated.
â�¢Reports to the appropriate public health authorities any patient having a reportable disease.
â�¢Prepares reports as needed for use by the Infection Prevention Committee and other committees and departments to present surveillance data and identify problems, patterns and/or trends.
â�¢Maintains a close working relationship with all hospital departments with respect to infection prevention related matters, ensuring that all appropriate controls are in place.
â�¢Participates in the Employee Health Program, New Employee Orientation, and consults on infectious disease questions, problems or issues related to employee health.
â�¢Evaluates the total hospital environment as it relates to infection prevention and assists in the implementation and coordination of sanitation and aseptic practices within the hospital.
â�¢Establishes and maintains a system of record keeping which allows for the collection and interpretation of pertinent infection prevention data.
â�¢Utilizes facility based clinical and administrative databases to retrieve necessary information for analysis, presentation, and communication with healthcare workers.
â�¢Validates the accuracy of data retrieved prior to submission of mandatory reported data to State and Federal agencies.
â�¢Conducts data analysis, utilizing standardized analytical evaluation which to drive surveillance and performance improvement activities.
â�¢Utilizes applications that have capabilities of processing and producing spreadsheets that can assist in identifying clusters of epidemiologically important pathogens, creating alerts of newly detected multi-drug resistant organisms, and improve efficiency and scope of review and analysis of large quantities of data.
â�¢Learns and implements new technology tools as they become adopted by the hospital.
â�¢Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
â�¢Minimum of (3) years of clinical experience in nursing, microbiology, biology, Nursing or Public Health.
â�¢Bachelor in Science (Microbiology, Biology, Nursing)
â�¢Registered Nurse or Clinical Lab Scientist with a CA state license. Active member of APIC.
â�¢Board Certification in Infection Prevention and Control to be attempted within 2 years of hire if not already obtained.
