Description: Vanderbilt's Department of Health Policy is seeking qualified candidates to provide faculty with scientific leadership in developing and executing substantial portions of the research plans for studies and projects including data management, statistical analyses, project management, manuscript preparation, and other research assistance. This position is responsible for the independent execution of major components of complex quantitative research projects in health policy, health services research, epidemiology, or related disciplines, and utilizes advanced level research skills to perform a variety of research and operations-related activities including report preparation and management of project schedules for proposals and projects.
The ideal candidate has strong data management and programming skills (SAS, STATA, R), extensive experience with Medicare and other health insurance administrative claims data, solid project management experience, and can provide analytic leadership for complex statistical analyses. It is expected that standard practices and techniques will be used to collect, compile, validate, interpret, and analyze data and trends. This position requires a person who can work well with a number of faculty members from diverse disciplines, oversee and guide the efforts of junior team members, take initiative to gather suitable data to address policy questions, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
The responsibilities of this position will include quantitative and written data analysis on issues of current health policy interest including health reform, Medicare/Medicaid/medication spending and utilization patterns, population health, pharmacoepidemiology topics, and health care disparities. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Demonstrates and applies content knowledge and methodological expertise to study design decisions, project activities and reporting a. Uses scientific expertise to develop and lead large and/or complex research projects b. Develops research plans c. Serves as co-investigator, as appropriate d. Uses advanced programming skills to manage and analyze data e. Responsible for managing large and/or complex datasets f. Contributes to the development and execution of complex analytic plans, including data specifications, reports, and tables/figures, using biostatistics and econometric methods
2. Supervises data management and analysis a. Uses quantitative and qualitative research methods skills to lead projects within larger research efforts b. Directs study team efforts, schedules and attends meetings, documents action items, interfaces with investigators, and provides professional support and leadership for study staff
3. Presents information and writes technical documents a. Demonstrates content expertise b. Assumes lead writer role for analytic purposes c. Provides instruction on research protocols d. Presents information to a wide variety of audiences e. Drafts research proposals and technical reports f. Contributes significantly to peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts
4. Serves as resource across teams and departments to provide expertise and share knowledge a. Exhibits team leaderships skills b. Provides guidance to team members c. Assigns and reviews work d. Participates in the hiring, supervising, and management of team members e. Fosters continual learning amongst team members f. Provides guidance and supervision to junior team members
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Master's degree and a minimum of 48 months of relevant experience. A degree in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, economics, public health, or a health-related discipline is strongly preferred.
